Although the Park has been open since May 6th, the actual opening ceremony was held last Friday, May 17th and was well attended and loads of fun. The park was blessed by Native American Lois Chillcot from Wisconsin (shown below) and many of PDX’s bigwigs were there too.

Preschool kids from the Portland Public Schools Early Learners Academy at the Ramona made banners and held them proudly while the older children from the Montessori School performed a song and, I think, signed it as well. That’s what it looked like to me!

Even though it started to sprinkle, a little rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Dogs and their two-legged keepers shared the space and fun was had by all. It didn’t hurt that Safeway donated some delish treats for the occasion!

Here’s a great view of the dog park area, the first of it’s kind in Portland designed from the ground up (Portland parks and Recreation) with your dog in mind!

Get out and enjoy! We’ve documented picnics, frisbee tournaments, outdoor classes, painting easels, hugging, sunbathing, soccer practice, jogging, meandering, flower picking (not recommended), sandcastles, teddy bears on hammocks, reading and bicycling. Have you seen any other use of the park yet? That can be printed here, I mean!!
