Moving to Portland
There's a reason why Portland is a perennial favorite on the "Most Livable Cities" lists of major publications across the country.
First and foremost, we're green. On every level imaginable. 37,000 acres of parks cover our metro area, including Forest Park, the largest urban forest reserve in America. More than 150 miles of hiking and biking trails are within city limits. We're a hub of farmer's markets, selling produce fresh from the growers. We're a leader in sustainability, from our recycling initiatives to our high percentage of LEED-certified development, to our commitment to public and alternative transportation. We're a great walker's city.
Portland is a place full of people who take their play as seriously as their work. With either the ocean or mountains just over an hour away, and a river or lake a stone's throw from any city location, recreation is a big part of our lives. And almost as close, Oregon's wine country-where our pinot noirs and other specialties have earned worldwide attention. Art and design and innovation are big here. Galleries abound. Imaginative thinking is celebrated.
There's always someplace to go and something to do. Stroll through the hip Pearl District to Powell's Bookstore (the largest in the country), then head downtown for a performance or dinner. Or both.
